Should I put my Chinchilla Down?
Years I have had the two men since birth. A few months ago left nut to crack, and began to drool. His teeth apparently begun to grow in crooked, the veterinarian has suggested it was a genetic defect, and who was caring for him too, and my other chinchillas have no problem. Now he can not chew their food, and his skin is dull and causes much discomfort. I have to soak the chinchilla pellets and mash up before he gives to him, and he has started to refuse to dust-bathe. It's still alert and eaten yet, but has lost a tremendous amount of weight, is in frequent pain, and no vet can do anything to help, so his condition will not improve. Does anyone know if crooked teeth could cause more medical problems as growth again in the head, tongue, biting, etc-or chinchillas can continue living this way happy? Will straighten on their own if you stop chewing? Is there anything I can do? Or should I put down?
I think it is in the best interest of your chinchilla to him euthanized. N chinchilla want to live well. Poor thing. Despite that this will be very sad for you, will be painless and humane. Trust that he is in a better place and will not be in pain any more. This is the best way for him to go. It does not sound like you're in great shape, so how can that be a good quality of life for him? It is not. So go ahead and euthanize him. It will be out of pain. Do not you want for your pet?
